Scientific events organized by project partners

Conferences, workshops, open for audience beyond CCES partners

  • GSN Workshop 2010 was organised by SwissEx in Davos. Presentations are on http://www.swiss-experiment.ch
  • The session “Restored River Corridor Dynamics: experiments, observations and modelling river restoration” was organized by RECORD scientists at the EGU General Assembly, Vienna, Austria, 02 – 07 May 2010, including a total of 7 oral and 18 poster presentations on the RECORD project.
  • RECORD researchers of Eawag hosted the Groundwater Quality (GQ) conference series under the theme: “GQ2010 Groundwater Quality Management in a Rapidly Changing World Zurich Switzerland, June 13 - 18, 2010”. During GQ10, an exciting program of 83 oral and 96 poster presentations was arranged. The Technical Tour of GQ10 included the visit of the RECORD site at Niederneunforn.
  • The PermaSense project hosted a field site visit at the Matterhorn field site for interested scientific partners. This event took place July 2-3, 2010 in Zermatt Switzerland and included tutorials and a hands-on visit to the sensor locations on the Hoernli ridge.

PhD courses, summer and winter schools

  • Practical training course (Praktikum Aquatische Systeme, 701-0420-00 P) for ETH students in the Spring Semesters 2009 and 2010 at the Thur site Niederneunforn.
  • Sensor Networks: From Theory to Practice, fall 2009. Graduate level, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL)

  • Excursion for RU Soil Sciences, WSL, 29.9.2009, including the RECORD site and the restoration project of Kt. ZH near Ellikon a.R.
  • An excursion for the “Kantonale Wasserfachleute” of Cantons Thurgau, Zürich and St. Gallen was held on 12.6.2009.
  • Excursion with computer scientists from University of Twente/The Netherlands. April 2009.
  • Excursion with Hydrologists from the University of Freiburg/Germany. May 2009.
  • Excursion with the Thur-Group and the cantonal staff of the river authorities (Canton Zürich, Thurgau, St. Gallen, Appenzell-Innerrhoden, Appenzell-Ausserrhoden). June 2009.
  • The PermaSense project hosted a safety course on working in high alpine terrain for it’s members and associated projects. The course took place August 23-15, 2010 in the Matter valley and included basic mountaineering skills, rescue as well as helicopter operations safety.

  • Ernst Kruijff (University of Graz, AT) on the use of the SwissEx infrastructure within Hydrosys and the provision of extra funding from Hydrosys for the Wifi activities.
  • Partnerships with a number of CCES projects and groups within the Swiss institutes, for the provision of a data service with the SwissEx infrastructure.

  • Classroom intervention and hands on demonstration of the SensorScope stations to primary and middle school classes (4)
  • Guided tours for the teachers and other stakeholders (4)
  • ‘Seismo-at-School’ (www.seismoatschool.ethz.ch). In January 2009 one of the first ‘school-seismographs’ in Switzerland was installed at the Colleges de Creusets, Sion (station ESION). The installation was accompanied by an education program for teachers. In addition, educational materials for students (brochures) were developed, in cooperation with the EU Alcotra- Interreg project on environmental education O3E (o3e.geoazur.eu).
