Sensorscope will hold a stand at the Nuit de la Science in Geneva next week-end. (http://www.ville-ge.ch/culture/nuit/)

Among others, the LTS2/EPFL laboratory will demonstrate their new 3D technology camera. The Energy Center will simulate the power supply of Switzerland in 2035. Visitors will also be able to play with the sniffer robots of the DISAL/EPFL laboratory in order to detect toxic vapors. Sensorscope will demonstrate how environmental risks can be prevented thank to their cutting-edge wireless sensor network technology.

LTE radar now installed in Davos and collecting data. This data is wirelessly transferred (over the long distance wifi link) to SLF, where it is stored. The interesting periods will then be transferred to EPFL and processed.

    PermaSense installed a Wireless LAN link from the precipitation radar on Klein Matterhorn to the field site on Hoernligrat/Matterhorn. The link to Hoernlihuette is running at 21 Mbps since yesterday evening. After abandoning the installation of the new WLAN capable base station on the ridge due to a thunderstorm yesterday morning we weathered out in the hut today and hope to finish our work tomorrow.

The new Sensorscope 2.3 data-logger is almost ready. We have successfully tested several prototypes, and it will be available by the end of the summer. The main features / improvements with respect to 2.0 version are:

- Improved energy management: it will allow base-stations to be powered by regular AA batteries instead of the current 12V battery.

- Improved connectors: plastic connectors will be replaced by more robust metal connectors.

- Increased robustness and electrical isolation: lightning protection, RF isolation

Last week we deployed 16 Sensorscope stations in the subcatchment of La Drance de Ferret, Valais. The Sensorscope stations within the study area were determined by selecting the most representative morphological features of the catchment in terms of slope, aspect, and elevation.

The SwissEx Science workplan is taking shape. We're in the process of submitting a finalised version to CCES based on the project proposal that was approved almost a year ago. The delay has been caused by the need to recruit staff and get a workplan defined that suits both collaborators at SLF and EPFL, as well as delivering lasting results. As we've gained more experience with the SwissEx infrastructure, the plans have modified slightly.

The project plan is going to be taking shape at Science:PMprojectb979c7f over the next few days.

The Wannengrat winter SensorScope deployment has now been removed, leaving only 6 stations to measure ablation rate. The deployment was very successful and 3 sensorscope stations were found to be still in perfect working order after being buried in avalanches for 3 months (apart from broken wind sensors which can be cheaply repaired). A credit to the SensorScope engineers.
