First autonomous camera deployed in La Fouly2010-11-01T00:00:0001 November 2010 The first autonomous camera module has been attached to a Sensorscope station in La Fouly. The camera is currently programmed to send pictures (800x600) every 30 minutes during the daytime. Powered by regular AA rechargeable batteries and a solar panel of 2.4 Watts, this first camera has been installed in station 1033. Located very close to the "La Dotse" summit, at almost 2500m, the station will be deployed during this winter, together with two more stations, to continue the summer campaign using a reduced set-up. Site metadata and project management pages linked2010-10-19T00:00:00019 October 2010 It's now possible to say that a project task is going to happen at a particular measurement location or fieldsite. This means that I can define a project task, as happening at a measurement location, e.g. wan2. The task then turns up on the wan2 page, so you can see everything that's planned for this location. Some impressions Publication entries2011-02-27T00:00:00027 February 2011 I have just finished a new publications system. This is not meant to replace a professional publications system such as Web of Science, but it is meant to link publications to data sources and also as a way for groups to disseminate new publications via RSS feeds. Options are provided for either direct upload or citation of the publication. Any feedback would be appreciated. More information can be found here Visually arresting charts2010-06-03T00:00:0003 June 2010 Just found some really interesting and attention-grabbing plots online at the Economist online - see their 'daily charts'. Problems with matlab code to access GSN databases2011-02-02T00:00:0002 February 2011 I'm aware that there are some problems accessing GSN data using the Matlab code that was released a few months ago. I'm trying to fix it in a way that works across multiple versions of Matlab, on multiple platforms and fails a little more, ah, gracefully. As soon as there is a new version, I'll post something here and update the code on the wiki. Any requests for features, bright ideas, notes about problems or whatever should be sent to me at clifton at slf.ch. Thanks! Based on last year experiences with the Sensorscope system, this new version has ben build to correct / improve some of the encountered problems. It includes a new power circuit, improved sensor bus hardware, micro-sd, connectors, and rf-interface. Together with these new 2.3 boards, we are also testing the new Powerboard. Including 10 rechargeable AA batteries and using a 2.4W solar panel, this board aims at replacing the old 5W solar panel and 12V lead-acid batteries (making base-station installations lighter and easier to install).
A considerable effort has been put into the software (radio communication, gprs) to reduce power consumption. Press event to be held in Davos on the 21st/22nd October, featuring field trips to the sites of this winter's multi/inter-disciplinary experiments in Davos including the X-band radar and SensorScope field. The deployment was very successful and 3 sensorscope stations were found to be still in perfect working order after being buried in avalanches for 3 months (apart from broken wind sensors which can be cheaply repaired). A credit to the SensorScope engineers. PermaSense v2 network deployment2008-07-10T00:00:00010 July 2008 PermaSense to deploy new sensor network on the Matterhorn next week. Publications updated2011-11-29T00:00:00029 November 2011 The SwissEx publications list has been updated. Dischma transect deployed2009-08-17T00:00:00017 August 2009 Dischma transect completed using Sensorscope stations. Some of these stations are communicating from one side of the valley to the other. These stations will remain until the end of September, before they will move to produce a transect of Wannengrat. 1000s of sensors online2009-04-01T00:00:0001 April 2009 200+ sensor positions (1000s of sensors) from SLF now available (to SwissEx users or others on application) via SensorMap. Please register as a user on the SensorMap webpage and send your username to dawes@slf.ch for activation and inclusion into the groups. For information on how to get your own sensors included, please send questions to the same email. PermaSense fieldsite servicing2008-11-19T00:00:00019 November 2008 The PermaSense team was out for a quick field servicing trip on the wintery slopes of Matterhorn. Good news - all sensors are up and running.

Centralised query interface2011-09-19T00:00:00019 September 2011 A centralised GSN query interface is now available via the sensor metadata pages or the user home pages. This interface provides quick queries of data using most of the facilities available through the individual GSN interfaces. It also provides Excel friendly date output. Automated form completion occurs when entering the query interface from the metadata pages. We would like to make sure that this meets your needs. Please email us with your suggestions.
