- 14/10/09 First SensorScope stations deployed on Wannengrat




- 09/10/09 Press event to be held in Davos on the 21st/22nd October, featuring field trips to the sites of this winter's multi/inter-disciplinary experiments in Davos including the X-band radar and SensorScope field. Additionally, current non-SwissEx research at SLF will be covered during the 2 day event. Contact: wessels@slf.ch

- 11/09/09 LTE radar now installed in Davos and collecting data. This data is wirelessly transferred (over the long distance wifi link) to SLF, where it is stored. The interesting periods will then be transferred to EPFL and processed.
- 11/09/09 Following the Wireless LAN links PermaSense installed the Mountainview camera on the Matterhorn field site. watch this and an auxiliary webcam here:
- August 2009
- 17/08/09 Dischma transect completed using Sensorscope stations. Some of these stations are communicating from one side of the valley to the other. These stations will remain until the end of September, before they will move to produce a transect of Wannengrat.
- 17/08/09 Nick and Vanessa (SLF) filmed in a 'SensorScope installation' setting for programme intros on SF1/TVR from November.
- 10/08/09 Wifi working continuously from SLF to Jakobshorn at rates of 12Mbits/s (produced using Hydrosys funding).
- July 2009
- 30/07/09 EPFL precipitation radar damaged in transit. New installation dates: week of 07/09/09. Wifi link to radar tested at a speed of 36Mbps. Some reprogramming of routing to be done before the link will be tested for a month previous to radar installation.
- 26/07/09 EPFL precipitation radar to be installed on Jakobshorn, Davos over the course of this week
- 23/07/09 Biglink SensorScope stations installed at Damma glacier forefield. http://sensorscope.epfl.ch/climaps/map/view
- 22/07/09 Biochange SensorScope stations installed in the Rheintal. http://sensorscope.epfl.ch/climaps/map/view
- 21/07/09 Mountland Stillberg SensorScope station installed. http://sensorscope.epfl.ch/climaps/map/view
- 18/07/09 PermaSense installed a Wireless LAN link from the precipitation radar on Klein Matterhorn to the field site on Hoernligrat/Matterhorn. The link to Hoernlihuette is running at 21 Mbps since yesterday evening. After abandoning the installation of the new WLAN capable base station on the ridge due to a thunderstorm yesterday morning we weathered out in the hut today and hope to finish our work tomorrow.
- 17/07/09 All SensorScope stations apart from the 6 Record stations (waiting for them to return from holiday) now online at http://sensorscope.epfl.ch/climaps/map/view. These will be integrated into GSN ASAP and deployed to the field next week and the week after.
- 06/07/09 First SwissEx SensorScope stations received and testing started.

- 22/05/09 Database of fieldsites - initial infrastructure now complete based on the SwissEx metadata system. Fieldsites now being continually added.
- 18/05/09 SwissEx is to be presented at the festival of science - Basecamp 09 in Chur, Switzerland. DE and EN versions of the presentation available. Also requires download of the mudflow video and SensorMap video
- 15/05/09 SensorScope orders have now finally been placed following funding transfers lasting over 1 month. Delivery times will follow.

- 14/04/09 In talks with the Russian Academy of Science (fellow Microsoft Research collaborators) about the provision of NOAA NCEP/NCAR, NCDC and SPIDR data over SensorMap.
- 14/04/09 Virtual Earth added latest cloud cover data to their 3D interface. This is also available in SensorMap. Information on how this is done is provided here
- 14/04/09 Test of GSN alerts (when stations do not transmit data) on Wannengrat successful. This will now be deployed on all SLF sensors
- 07/04/09 1st order of SensorScope stations submitted

- 01/04/09 200+ sensor positions (1000s of sensors) from SLF now available (to SwissEx users or others on application) via SensorMap. Please register as a user on the SensorMap webpage and send your username to dawes@slf.ch for activation and inclusion into the groups. For information on how to get your own sensors included, please send questions to the same email.

- 31/03/09 Successful demonstration of the joined SwissEx/MSR demonstration "Environmental Monitoring 2.0" at ICDE 2009 in Shanghai, China.
- 19/03/09 After 5 months PermaSense was back on the Matterhorn site to check on the equipment and install a few more nodes higher up on the ridge.

- 27/11/08 A new and simple tool for visualizing node health is online on the PermaSense Live Data Viewer.
- 19/11/08 The PermaSense team was out for a quick field servicing trip on the wintery slopes of Matterhorn. Good news - all sensors are up and running.

- 09/10/08 Paper on metadata management accepted in eScience 2008 conference.
- 08/10/08 Construction of the runoff station at Wannengrat has begun.
- 07/10/08 Site currently being restructured slightly to make navigation easier, mainly using map based navigation instead of menu navigation and consolidating pages. A linked picture extension has also been added (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:LinkedImage).
- 07/10/08 Paper on SensorMap technologies accepted in ICDE 2009.

- 27/09/08 PermaSense celebrates 2 months of continuous data from the Matterhorn site: View it live here
- 24/09/08 Metadata user guide updated
- 19/09/08 SwissEx appears in the newsletter of the Mountain Research Initiative.
- 18/09/08 New SensorMap version released including metadata taken from the revised metadata structure.
- 17/09/08 SwissEx hold a successful infrastructure workshop with valuable feedback.
- 12/09/08 Major changes to the Metadata infrastructure have been made to make it more intuitive. This infrastructure is ready to use.
- August 2008
- 14/08/08 SLF and EPFL-MICS/DERI achieve a 12Mbps Wifi link over 6km from Wannengrat to Davos. A full acquisition system is to be set up over the next few weeks. Many thanks to Walter and Theresa Good for the use of their roof.
- 01/08/08 Throughout August and September, EAWAG and LSIR will be working on a system to record manually sampled measurements
- 01/08/08 SwissEx officially starts! The SwissEx project will run for 4 years from today (funding is currently being pursued for a follow up project).

- 31/07/08 Technical discussions between Sebastian, Nick and the SensorMap team were successfully wrapped up. Details are available here
- 29/07/08 SwissEx was successfully presented by Sebastian at the Microsoft Research faculty summit along with a demonstration of Sensormap by Liqian Luo.
- 16/07/08 The full history of data from the Wannengrat stations is currently being loaded into the SwissEx database.
- 10/07/08 PermaSense to deploy new sensor network on the Matterhorn next week.
- 10/07/08 New version of Microsoft Sensormap to be available online in the next few days.
- 10/07/08 Wannengrat SensorScope deployment to be removed next week when the cows are 'deployed'.
- 10/07/08 Hydromon network fully deployed. Discussions are underway on how to make the data public.
