Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS)

For measurement of temperature within hydrological systems, EPFL EFLUM and EAWAG (CCES RECORD project) have distributed temperature sensing equipment: fibre optic, laser based systems capable of measuring temperature along the axis of the fibre optic at fine spatial and temporal resolutions. EPFL EFLUM are one of the leading research institutions in this area. Meanwhile, EAWAG have produced a method of using the DTS to measure temperatures over a depth profile, using a coiled fibre.

University of Twente, Netherlands, have also come up with a method of reading the DTS data over a network link in real time. This work will be used in SwissEx to gather DTS data.

DTS systems will be involved in the interdisciplinary SwissEx deployments.

More information to follow.
