This is the Advanced Search Metadata Query Interface v5.0 - Use this form to do advanced queries in the Swiss-Experiment database.
This is a user-friendly query interface that allows any user, beginner or expert to efficiently search in thousands of sensor metadata that exist in Swiss-Experiment database. The Query Interface supports queries with multiple properties, display possiblities, sorting and ordering features and several formats of the returned results. Further there is a recommendation system that will propose metadata pages that you may be interested in.
In this section we will describe the layout of the query interface, and explain its options and abilities.
The first appearance of the interface is quite simple and only offers the ability to make a query with one property and its value.
IMAGE1
The property is being selected from a dropdown list in which the properties are categorized according to the metadata schema below.
After the selection of the property, the value field, which in the beginning in empty, is re-created and it contains all available values of this property. In case of numeric values, you can also choose among several operators to make comparisons (<,>,!). The following figures illustrate our statements.

The query form allows user to choose more properties to add in the query. Again, by using the dropdown list to choose the property and the value field which changes depending on the choice of property. Furthermore, as more properties are added in the query the user can define if those properties will be in conjunction or disjunction (if Conjunction - AND operator - all properties must exist in the metadata page, if disjunction - OR operator - at least one property must exist in the metadata page) . The selection of more properties is dynamic too and the list of them can be shown or hided by using the corresponding button.

The query form provides several advanced options to be added in the query. The screenshot below shows how the form looks like while the following table summarizes the usage of these options.
IMAGE4
Further, most of the current query interfaces does not take into consideration two important facts. The ability the user to add more “sort by” options in the query and the need to display more properties in the returned results than those specified in the where clause. Thus, the query interface that we implemented offers the ability to sort the results by several properties and to add extra properties that are not in the where clause.
IMAGE5
The query interface provides several formats in which the user can display the results. Some of them are among the classical outputs but several new useful outputs are also provided. The following table summarizes the several formats being offered. After this table a more detail representation of these formats will be provided, additionally with some screenshots.
