Protocol
- Hurray!
- The reviewers were all hydrologists → no comments to the ecological parts
- Team rated by personal knowledge and publication record
- Most concerns raised by the reviewers can be dealt with easily
- Data management issues → SwissEx
- Modeling of root-zone processes? → Matching fund project (SNF by Jörg Luster)
- Meeting with Domenico Giardini and Nikolaus Gotsch
- The budget envelop of 1.8 megafranks is guaranteed, but we only get the money on a yearly basis (needs to be justified)
- The time frame set by CCES is four years, we need to stretch out the money
- CCES wants a yearly status report, basis of money transfer for the next year. First year: no review, after second year review possible.
- Workplan is mainly a cut-and-paste excercise, but a time plan for each subproject is needed. If necessary, we can clarify points raised by the reviewers. Dependencies between various tasks should be marked, mainly for risk management.
- Submission of the workplan: February 1, 2007
- Finances should be per applicant and year. Investments must be specified. 3rd party and internal contributions must be specified.
- There are forms for money transfer on the CCES page, differing for ETH-Zürich and other researchers. These must be used to avoid V.A.T.
- CCES holds the coordinator responsible. If something goes wrong, they address the coordinator. Budget distribution can be changed from one year to the next. This is can be used as emergency break, if a participant is not cooperative.
- Domenico suggests forming a management team of the work package leaders: Olaf, Andrew, Klement.
- Domenico suggests signing a consortium agreement, in which all participants agree to follow common rules. In particular, they confirm to contribute the promised internal funds and apply for the mentioned third-party funds.
- We should have a kick-off meeting in April. Nikolaus or Domenico will participate.
- CCES wants us to write the web pages of the project within the CMS-system of CCES (one member of the consortium gets permit).
- CCES can give help for meetings in preparation of EU projects
- Job announcement can be distributed via CCES web page.

- Identification of Weak Parts and Risks
- Hydrometeorology
- Andrew raised concerns that the water fluxes over the surface boundary are not properly taken care of. Marc Parlange would be the top specialist for that in the field. We should see how to bring him in.
- Olaf points out that these fluxes appear in the proposal under Task 1.4. The main responsibility lies with ETH IfU. Olaf has talked to Marc who is willing to help on a technical basis and may co-advise the corresponding Ph.D. student. There is a disagreement whether a problem exists and who is responsible for surface fluxes.
- The Paolos, Andrew, Marc, Philipp, and Olaf set up a date for an appointment to clarify the issue (Remark: this must happen before submission of the workplan).
- Dependence on Site Installation
- Common data platform for all data collected at the site needed: Wiki? SwissEx experience. The coordinator will be very strict in enforcing central data handling. Philipp is about to learn how the technology works.
