Virtual Earth/SensorMap 3D cloud cover data

The Virtual Earth 3D team have communicated that the cloud cover data is provided as follows:

"The rendered clouds are based on a gridded global forecast with 0.5 deg spacing. This forecast is produced by either of two companies (Weather Central, WDT). The forecast tells us cloud type, height (in several layers), thickness, and coverage percentage. We then use this to create a somewhat random placement of clouds in the area of that grid point matching the parameters from the forecast. In this sense, the rendered clouds are intended to represent approximately what you might see in terms of cloud type and coverage if you are at the location."
