This dataset is an open dataset which has been made available to show the capabilities of SwissEx. Please feel free to use this data, but please cite the dataset in any papers and preferably inform the data owners before use.

Introduction to IRKIS

The IRKIS network is a demonstration network of soil moisture and meteorological parameters for the validation of soil moisture models. These models will eventually be used to predict the soil moisture at each IMIS station location. In this way, in the even of a storm, the groundwater storage potential will be known and can be taken into account by the regional natural hazards authorities.

There are 7 IRKIS stations in the demonstration network. The data from these stations is shown below. All stations provide meteorological data in near-real time (between every 10 mins and every 6 hours depending on the station). Soil moisture is manually retrieved at three stations and sent every 10 minutes from the other stations.

Each station has the parameters: air temperature, relative humidity, ground surface temperature, wind speed, wind direction, precipitation (unheated), incoming and reflected shortwave radiation,
