Jura Vaudois The Jura is an oceanic mountain area sensitive to land-use change and temperature increase - this area is suitable to study the dynamics and biodiversity of montane and subalpine forests, wooded pastures and grasslands, the patterns of segregation/integration of land use, and their interrelations to disturbances under climate change. The study area (cf. Fig. 1) includes the IHG region "Vallée de Joux", most of the current territory of the Parc Jurassien Vaudois, and corresponds to the area planned for the future Parc Naturel Régional in this region. Located close to Lausanne, it is one of the most attractive landscapes of the Swiss Jura Mountains for recreational and touristic activities. The Vallée de Joux is a traditional and very active centre for the Swiss watch industry. The region is also a hot spot for biodiversity and has been chosen for many past and current case studies in grassland, woodland and wetland ecology. Forests and pastures are closely associated in the rural economy and deliver high-quality products (wood, meat, milk and their derivatives). The Parc Jurassien Vaudois, which corresponds to the core area of the study region (silvopastoral landscapes), will be an enthusiastic partner of the project in the perspective of the creation of a future Parc Naturel Régional. This partnership will ensure maintaining a close collaboration between the stakeholders and the scientists of the project.
