Intelligent Sensors

The Distributed Intelligent Systems and Algorithms Laboratory, DISAL at EPFL will be developing intelligent sensor systems for SwissEx.

The sampling of a sensor is usually non-optimal: either high data rates are returned when nothing interesting is being measured, or the data rate is not high enough to measure some of the phenomena occurring. Using intelligent sampling algorithms, DISAL aim to detect interesting events and dynamically adapt sampling rates to optimise the amount of interesting data returned.

Current subjects under development:

  • In network power monitoring and management
  • Data compression
  • Adaptive sampling
